A Gene to Better Remember Traumatic Events

Author: Nikhil Swaminathan

In this article, Nikhil Swaminathan says that appeared a new study in Nature Neuroscience, which shows that some people whose carry a variant of the ADRA2B gene have a better recall of emotionally than who have not that gene. Some studies of laboratory says the mutation of ADRA2B causes the deletion of three amino acids in the protein that it encodes, what disrupts the behavior of a receptor for the neurotransmitter noradrenaline, which is known to be involved in emotional memory, therefore a receptor modification of this neurotransmitter improves the recall of emotional memories. But, it is necessary doing neuroimaging studies to determine where exactly the effect on the noradrenaline is taking place in the brain.

CAREER RELATED TOPIC

mmmmmmmm…It is the best time for me to talk about some subject that I found interesting, because five months ago I didn`t have any idea about this subject.

I really, really like Juridical Psychology. This ar
ea of the
Psychology is new in our country and in other latinoamerican countries, but it is very developed in european countries, like Spain.

Juridical Psychology is an specialized area of psychological investigation and its aim is to study the behavior of the criminal characters in the law and the Justice. This area is recognized by international associations and organizations of the area.

Well, in spite of my like of Juridical Psychology, I haven`t read a lot about this subject, because I am busy on the work that I must to do for the University. But, a couple of months ago, I read some chapters of a book called Psychological expert's report in sexual crimes, that book was written by two students of Psychology of this University. The book was really interesting, but the topic of the book was mainly Victiminology, and I consider more exciting Criminology than Victiminology.

I`d like to know more about prisions, specifically I`d like to see how is the life of the people into prisions. This semester my class was going to visit a jail, but the university was occupied (by the students) and the visit was cancelled. It was very sad for me.......snif!!!!!!

You should ask Juridical Psychology is the toughest area of the Psychology so Why does she likes it ? Well, it is very simple, the last year I had lost the hope in my career, and I thought to drop it, but I continued and this semester was the most exciting in all the career, because I found something in wich you don`t neccesary "help to people" as say all the students of Psychology, something that really interested me, something different in wich you can discover a lot of new topics.....Juridical Psychology.

If you are interested in Juridical Psychology you can visit that Two interesting websites:

Recommended Web Sites in my Area...

Hello again!

This activity was really hard for me, because I didn`t know any website of Psychology in english. But I liked this activity, because I had to look for websites and now I know some of them that I didn`t know before. And, honestly if no one had requested to like look for websites I wouldn`t have done this ever.

The first website I chose was http://psycnet.apa.org/ this website is of the American Psychological Association, which is the official association of psychologists in the world and it has a lot of prestige in the Scientists' community of this area of studies. This website was very interesting for me, because I will find here some databases, publications, researches, papers, news and articles connected with the career that I`m studying now. For that reason, it will be very useful to do some activities for the University when I`ll have to investigate about some topic in particular.

The second website I chose was http://www.criminology.com/, I have to say that I loved this website because this academic semester I have had the subjects related with the possible area of this career in which I`ll could work when I`ll finished the University. And my favourite subjet and the area in which I suppose that I`ll work is Juridical Psychology and this website is very interesting because it has articles and very information about criminology, which is a topic that I consider really exciting.

Well, I hope that you (my classemates) suggest about my recommended web sites...

See you, when we come back to classes....

My Last Weekend...

My weekends are generally enough boring, I study all day long and I do any group work and I read the material for classes.
But my last weekend was very funny...

In the morning I met a partner to do a group work of Juridical Psychology, when we finished it we were very happy, because it was a very long work and very hard.

In the evening (and night) I met my boyfriend, Hector and with my best friend Diego, in the Hector´s house, we talked and laughed a lot.

Hector cooked meat (He studies Gastronomy) and Diego and I helped him to cook.

The dinner was delicious, we ate meat, potatoes, and we drank wine: Late Harvest, I love it! When we finish eating, we drank... a little of different coctails.

Later We went to buy Coca Cola and Orange Juice to drink a little more...

Around 2: 30 AM we went to sleep.

Now, is Sunday and We got up at Midday. We had breakfast, then we played Play Station 2 and Hector cooked again.

At night I will take a rest and I think I will do something related with the University.

My favourite song: MORE THAN WORDS...

More than Words

By Extreme

Saying I love you

Is not the words I want to hear from you

It's not that I want you

Not to say, but, if you only knew

How easy, it would be to show me how you feel

More than words, is all you have to do to make it real

Then you wouldn't have to say, that you love me

Cos I'd already know

What would you do, if my heart was torn in two

More than words to show you feel

That your love for me is real

What would you say,

if I took those words away

Then you couldn't make things new

Just by saying I love you

More than words...

Now that I've tried to, talk to you and make you understand

All you have to do is close your eyes

And just reach out your hands, and touch me

Hold me close don't ever let me go

More than words, is all I ever needed you to show

Then you wouldn't have to say, that you love me

Cos I'd already know

More than words...

More than words...

Band that sings it...

Extreme sings “More than words”, it isn´t my favourite band, and I don´t like any other song of them, but I can say about Extreme that is an American rock band that achieved popularity in the 80s and 90s. This band was one of the most successful bands from the early 1990s, selling over 10 million albums worldwide. Extreme rose to fame with its 1990 release Pornografitti, in that album also featured the acoustic ballad hit single "More Than Words", which reached #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 in the United States

Explaining the meaning of the song...

This song says that there are more than one way to communicate what we feel, words don´t say all of us, to say I love you is nothig compare a kiss or a touch (more than words). More than words is LOVE.

The song means to me...

that we don´t need to talk, a kiss, a touch, a look, they have their own languaje, we have to think the words, but they don´t express what we feel. I always forget this, but this song remember me that I have to show my feelings to the people that I love.

How the DHARMA Initiative Works

I chose this article, because ...

DHARMA is a mysterious organization of the TV serie “Lost”. I´m a fan of this TV serie, I had watched 3 seasons of this serie and I hope watch the fourth season soon. I chose this article mainly because I wanted to know more about DHARMA.

I found enough information in the article, exactly the info I were looking for.

Absolutely, I loved this article, It shows many research that could explain some mysteries of the TV serie “Lost”. I wanted specifically to learn the meaning of DHARMA and the article links this logo inclusive with some religions like Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. But the article shows more than I expect found, for example, the possible meaning of “the numbers: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42”, those numbers appear in the TV serie for no apparent reason.

The most interesting thing I learnt about the article

The most interesting things that I learnt in this article were the Grand Unified Theories about exactly what causes the strange happenings on the island and in the lives of the survivors before the crash. For example it could be a new life form programmed to react in a specific way to certain stimuli. Other theory colud be that the island have “portals” that allow people to travel from place to place. The article shows several posible theories too.

Words from the article that I found difficult to understand.

1- Stealth: an aircraft-design characteristic consisting of oblique angular construction and avoidance of vertical surfaces that is intended to produce a very weak radar return.
2- Pins: persons in need of supervision
3- Spoiler: information about the plot of a motion picture or TV program that can spoil viewer's sense of surprise or suspense.
4- Suspicion: the act or an instance of suspecting something wrong without proof or on slight evidence
5- Align: to array on the side of or against a party or cause.
6- Wisely: possessing inside information
7- Afoot: in the process of development
8- Hatch: a small door or opening (as in an airplane or spaceship).
9- Quirky: a peculiar trait.
10- Barrier: something material that blocks or is intended to block passage
11- Sketchy: questionable, iffy.
12- Stipends: a fixed sum of money paid periodically for services or to defray expenses
13- Bunker: a fortified chamber mostly below ground often built of reinforced concrete and provided with embrasures.
14- Trigrams: any of the eight possible combinations of three whole or broken lines used especially in Chinese divination.
15- Disclose: obsolete : to open.

Hello!

Hello everyone, my name is Paulina Avila, I am 19 years old and I am studying Psychology at the Universidad de Chile and I am in my third year there. My favorite subject is statistics, I loved it and I hate Personality, or is the teacher of this subject? I don`t know.

When I was at school I loved English, but now I feel that I have lost the practice, and English is something confusing to me. I like this activity a lot, because I will improve my English and it will gives me confidence to talk in English with other people, because I will have to do activities like listening, talking and writing. I expect that doing this activity I will really improve and I wish it has good results. I want learning English becomes easy to me again, because to speak English is important, in any country you will go people speak English, It is the universal language, and I´d like to travel around the world (I hope).

That`s all for this moment, but I`ll write again, see you.
